The 'Canes have enjoyed recent success over the Noles winning 6 of the last 7, but last year the Seminoles won a sloppy contest. This year should prove to be much better since both teams have Quarterbacks with some experience under their belts and both teams also have loaded Defenses. It was very hot and very tiring, but we had an awesome time. Jared and I ended up winning the overall team matches defeating O'D and Greg. The day that 230 years ago we declared our independence from the English. We live in the greatest country in the world and I thank all of the men and women that risk their lives to give us our freedom! It is because of them that I am able to have the best job in the world and tell teens about Christ everyday. The day started with the launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery this afternoon at 2:38pm. It was the first time that the shuttle has ever lifted off on July 4th and only the second mission since the Columbia disaster in 2003. I am a HUGE fan of space, so its always exciting getting the chance to see the shuttle launch. Plus, even though we live over 100 miles from Kennedy Space Center, we can still see the liftoff from Jupiter. We then celebrated the 4th by going to some friends house and cooking out all afternoon. We ended the night at Abacoa watching the firework show (sposored by Procida Tile, Jared's former place of employment). It was a great day of hanging out with friends and a good old fashioned BBQ. Pat Riley promised a parade years ago and last Friday, it became a reality. There were over 250,000 people packing the streets in front of the American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami. The parade was awesome, but the 95 degree heat and being surrounded by all those people was rough. Overall, it was a great day because HEAT fans from all over the country came together to celebrate the first championship in franchise history!!

The confetti rains down after the players speeches and the unveiled the new banner!

Antoine Walker and GP celebrating on the float.

Shaq and Zo..

This is the best picture of all...Mike Doleac and UD along with Sir Dwyane Wade. Facing all of the doubters, down 2-0, the Heat stormed back to win four straight and take the NBA Title. It was hard watching the last few minutes of the game with the score so close. I wanted so bad for the Heat to win and for all of the veterans that had worked so hard to take home a championship. After the game, Alonzo Mourning, GP, Antoine Walker and all of the other vets broke out in tears of celebration for the accomplishment. The city of Miami partied all night long in celebration of the teams accomplishment. Dwyane Wade was unbelievable and the hands down MVP of the finals averaging around 34 points a game including taking over the last four games of the series. People questioned whether or not he could do it in Dallas and the championship proves he could. You also cannot forget players like Udonis Haslem who added 17 points and was a force on the boards in game 6. It feels great to be a Heat fan today and Shaq already guaranteed a repeat next season! The Miami Heat are the 2006 NBA Champions!!!!! I have always liked the way he carries himself on the course and I like his aggresive style of play. This week, Phil had the chance to do what only 5 other men have done, which was to win a third consecutive major. He was tied for the lead coming into Sunday and looked poised and ready to win. Little did we know that he would fail to show up to play. He hit only 2 of 14 fairways. That's aweful. He still managed to hold a one stroke lead coming into 18 where he put his tee shot off of a hospitality tent and into the trees. He then proceeded to hit a tree with his next shot and his third shot was a towering approach into a fried egg lie in the bunker. "I can't believe I did that," is all Phil had to say of his final round collapse....better luck at the British next month.

World Cup 2006

On Friday, the World Cup will begin in Germany. For the next month, 62 soccer matches will be broadcast all over between the best soccer clubs in the world. This is one of the times around the globe that millions of people will join toegether to watch their country compete for the ultimate prize, the World Cup!! Perenial favorites Brazil behind Ronaldo and Ronaldinho are once again expected to take home the cup, but France and Thierry Henry may have a say with that. Also, keep an eye on Germany with that home field advantage.

As for the United States, they will be the only team traveling in a bus without it's flag gracing the side of the bus. This is a security precaution because of the hatred towards the U.S. They are going into a hostile environment where teams and fans would love to see them leave early. The United States comes into the World Cup with high hopes, but have drawn a tough grouping with Italy and the Czech Republic headlining the grouping. The U.S. is not expected to get through the opening round of play, but this next month promises to be exciting, summer break could not have come at a better time.....GO U.S.A!!!!!!!

<a href="">

The Weekend...

I have just returned from another wonderful weekend with the fellas. Jared, O.D., the Beave and I went to Brookesville, Florida (AKA Hickville), to play some golf. We played at World Woods, one of the top 50 courses in the U.S. The golf was excellent (I managed to fire a 73 and a 71), but it was just a small part of the weekend. The rest of the weekend was spent looking for things to do in the middle of nowhere including trying to find a spot to watch the Heat-Pistons game 3. Our first stop brought us to Roo's. It was a local bar, but the only thing on was Nascar, and trust me, you did not want to try and take that away from these people. Then we headed over to Applebees and caught the game. Later that night after the Heat dominated, we ended up back at the hotel. We went to see what was going on at Riley's Irish Pub. Little did we know that Saturday night was Karaoke night. The Beave was able to sing a few tunes. These people were to incredible to even begin to describe to you. Let's leave it at this, to these people, Karaoke is life. The weekend ended in Orlando at an all you can eat Prime Rib and Lobster buffet. It was a great weekend and just a preview of what's to come in July when we head to Alabama for a week of golf on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.....

24

Another season of the worlds greatest show has just come to an end. In this season, the President of the Unites States was involved in a plot to have another country bombed with nerve gas so that we could save money on oil. When Jack Bauer and CTU came to the rescue, the Russians tried to use the nerve gas on U.S. soil. Jack was able to expose the President for his actions and he was arrested.
I feel somewhat let down by the season finale, but it did set up for a great 6th season to come. Jack was captured again by the Chinese, an old nemesis from the last season. So the wait begins. Season 6 won't begin until January 2007.....until then, its back to watch the old seasons on DVD.

KDW

I realize its been a while since my last update, but to be honest, there hasn't been much going on. This past weekend was the Jupiter Christian KDW fishing tournament. My dad, brother-in-law, Jared, and I decided to enter and well, it did not go so well. We left the Jupiter inlet at about 7am. After getting some bait, we made our run out to about 3 miles offshore. When we got out there, all of our electronics shutdown. No depth finder and more importantly, no live bait-well. We tried to keep the bait alive by replenishing the water, but most of it died. This was a sign of things to come. Needless to say, we caught nothing! We decided that we were better fishers of men..... However, it was an incredible day. About 90 degress with 2 foot seas. We could not have asked for better weather. Better luck next year!!!

My Secret Identity Revealed.......

Growing up, I bet you thought that Superman was Clark Kent. The HEAT are currently up 2-0 on the bulls and look to be well on their way to the East Semi-finals. So far, after every HEAT game, we have had the pleasure of watching the Los Angeles Clippers play the Denver Nuggets. In this I have found my inspiration. If Chris Kaman (pictured) can put up a double-double in the NBA playoffs, then why can't I? He is the only balding guy in the world with long hair and one of the goofiest looking players in the NBA. Lets stop worrying about Udonis Haslem throwing his mouth piece at the ref, and start focusing on the Nuggets giving up a double-double to Chris Kaman. However, they did quiet him down in game two, holding him to only 10 points and 6 rebounds. Look out NBA....here I come!

Kareem Would Be Proud......

Stupid Thieves....

Well, in case you have not read Kevin's blog, our house got broken into today. I was on my way to the airport to drop off a friend after work when Kevin called and told me we were broken into. I was a little angry as you could imagine. I got home and the cops walked me through the house so I could ID what was missing. They got our laptops, digital cameras, playstation 2's, all the PS2 games, and some other things. Nothing of major importance was stolen, but all of our pictures from the DR and of my niece when she was born were on the computer so that really sucks. Over all, everything can be replaced and no one was harmed. At least they didn't steal Kevin. It was a great time and it was awesome getting to see all of our friends (and making some new ones) from Liberty. We got up there on Wednesday night and Kevin and I stayed at the lovely Moorings hotel in Palatka, FL. On Thursday we headed to Palatka Muni to play a litte golf with Kevin and Jared. Then we headed over to St. Augustine for the rehearsal. On Friday we all hit up the outlet malls and hung out, then got ready for the wedding that night. After the wedding, Kevin and I tore up the dance floor at the reception. The ladies got a special treat and we even got to bust out our merengue skills. Then on Saturday we all hung out a little more before parting ways. All I can say is that nothing beats spending time with friends. I am fortunate to have such awesome people in my life and it's times like these that make everything worth it!!

Me at Denny's at 2am after the bachelor fiesta...

This is me with the bride and groom...

Enjoy the view....

Absolute studs......

Kevin, Crystal and myself at our Uncle Ponce and Uncle San Marcos' fort in St. Augustine....

Friends and Family...

Today I wanted to take a minute to introduce the people that I value most in life. We went out and played a little golf to celebrate Kevins birthday and decided to play a little $2 Nassau. To complicated to explain, so don't worry about it. After Jared and I took the front nine 2 up, we proceeded to lose 4 in a row on the back to go 2 down for the match. After some prayer and encouragement, we got our acts together and won the last four holes to tie the back nine and win the match 2 up. In the individual matches, I won with a 74 and Dizzle posted an 83 to finish second. Kevin would be upset if I revealed his score so I will let you ask him if you really want to know!

Then on Sunday, Phil Mickelson brought home the green jacket with a closing round of 69. He fought off numerous attempts from other competitors, but his steady play through the back nine proved to much to over come. (Notice who is putting the Jacket on Phil in the picture, that was Kevins pick to win it this year.) Phil and Fred Couples have always been my two favorite golfers so it was awesome getting to see them play together in the final pairing today. So that makes two majors in a row for Phil, do I smell a Lefty Slam on its way?? Could he possibly win the next two to hold all 4 majors at once??? Probably not.......

Another tough loss for the HEAT.....

Well, there is not much good to report from our trip to Miami last night. It was a great first half with the Pistons only leading by one, but the second half was a different story. The Pistons jumped up by 12 and led the entire way through the second half. With about 6 minutes to go the HEAT brought the game within two and the crowd was going nuts, but consecutive three pointers by Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace put the game out of reach. The final ended up being 95-82. We had a blast hanging out and we found our newest HEAT playoff buddy in Lisa. She's now hooked on HEAT Basketball. Only about two weeks until playoff time....

A Tradition Unlike Any Other....

Every April it comes time for the greatest sporting event in the world to be played. It doesn't get the numbers of the Superbowl or the NBA championship, but the Masters is easily my favorite sporting event of the year. There is nothing like the emotion of watching a dramatic Sunday finish, seeing a virtual no-name defeat the greatest field in golf, or watching a players hopes of winning the green jacket collapse through Amen Corner. From Thursday - Sunday, golfers all around the world will be glued to their TV's to watch the years first major being played at one of the most prestigious courses in the world, Augusta National.
As usual, Kevin and I have placed a little wager on this years Masters. What's the wager you ask? A dinner at Outback Steakhouse. I still owe him one after Tiger pulled off a fluke of a victory last year, but this is my year. I have stuck with my man Phil Mickelson to win it this year and Kevin has taken his boy Tiger Woods. Phil is coming of an impressive victory last week and seem poised to take home his second green jacket.
This will be a familiar sight again this year...

Tiger wondering what happen when Phil blows by him on the leaderboard...

Heat - Pistons

Today marks a great day. We just got back from our amazing trip to the Dominican Republic. Kevin, Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Boz and myself took a group of 10 students from Jupiter Christian to the DR for a two week missions trip. I spent my time at the Sports site playing baseball with kids from ages 8 - 17. This is the second time I have gone to the DR, but God really moved on this trip. Despite not knowing a lick of Espanol, I was able to communicate and build some amazing relationships with those guys.

The one that grew closest to was my boy Anderson. He lives in a neighborhood called La Colonia. La Colonia is a really poor area of Jarabacoa in the Dominican. He lives in a small home with his brother Jelison and his mother. I am going to miss that kid so much!!

A typical day at the site went something like this: In the morning we spent our time running practice for the older guys. We stretched and threw with them then we would work on infield and outfield practice or batting. After that we had lunch and siesta. Siesta is something that Kevin and I are going to try and incorporate here in the states. Who couldn't use a nap in the middle of the day? After siesta we would went over to La Colonia and played with the younger guys. We worked on basics like fielding pop flies and ground balls, batting, and positions. We ended everyday with them by playing a two or three inning game. On Fridays we took time to do special activities with the guys. The first Friday we spent our time Nadaring en el rio (for those of you who don't habla espanol, we were swimming in the river. I know nadaring isn't the right word, but bare with me). The second Friday we brought the younger guys back to the base to swim in the pool.

When we were done at the sites we would return to the base for dinner, free time, and some sort of activity. My favorite was culture night (Just ask Brooke, she loved it too, admit it!!). After the activity we always had more free time so we would play some mean games of Uno. If we weren't playing uno then you could find us chillen the rocking chairs with Brooke, Alicia, Andrea, Chastity and Lindsey. It was great getting to know them. They made the time around the base so much more fun. I already miss you all!!!

I wish I had the time to tell you about everything that went on during those two weeks, but there is to much to write about. Thank you all for your prayers and I look forward to returning back there sometime this summer!

Pictures from the D.R.

Emma Grace!!

Today our family welcomed its newest member into the world, Emma Grace Woodrum. Don't get me wrong, I only wathced a total of about 1 hour of the Olympics over the last week, but that was enough to leave me with a few questions.

#1 - Curling. Now you had to see this one coming. I think about 45 of the 60 minutes I spent watching the Olympics were spent watching curling. It's kind of like those fishing shows, they just suck you in. You can't stop watching. I think I finally figured out the scoring though. I believe that whoever has the most "stones" inside their opponents stones gets that amount of points.

#2 - Lindsey Jacobellis. I know it's wrong, but admit it, you laughed when she was ahead by 50 yards with one jump to go and she ate it because she wanted to show off. At first I was upset that she gave up a U.S. gold, but I got a cheap laugh out of it anyways. Maybe next year Lindsey.....or make that four years.

#3 - The Biathelon. Enough said. Who wants to watch a bunch of guys or girls ski around for hours on end only to stop every five minutes to shoot at a little target.

As much as you want to knock the Winter Olympics, you know you sat there and watched them every night. I admit it, I did too. And just to think, only four more years until we get to do it all over again!!!

Indescribable

What an amazing night. We got the chance to go down and here worship with Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman and Louie Giglio in West Palm tonight. It was a wonderful night. The weather was incredible, the worship was excellent, and God moved in West Palm tonight. Louie Giglio spoke about how indescribable God is. He showed us pictures of our universe. Pictures of other Solar systems and it really put life in perspective. We are soooooo small. We serve a HUGE God. God is so good and as we looked at pictures of His creation, it made me think about how much he really loves us. The last picture we were shown was Jesus on the cross. That same HUGE God that we serve loved us so much that he sent his some to die for us. How awesome is that? That is love. I hope you all had the chance to catch the Indescribable tour when it got to your city, it really opened my eyes!

TJ's Top 5

To start off this blog, I would like to point out that this is the first blog I am writing from my new Apple G4 iBook. After a couple of weeks of thought and research, I decided that this was the notebook for me. Now on to the blog.
Last week I was aimlessly flipping through the channels on my TV when I came across yet another VH1 countdown. This one was the Top 100 people in Rock and Roll. So in celebration of that fact, I decided to reveal my top five musical artists of all time. To make it even, I picked one musician from each genre of music I listen to, so here you go....

Honerable Mentions: David Crowder, CCR, Manic (props to Shug), Sounds of Liberty (only with our boys from 32-1 and Amanda), RATM, and Soundgarden.

#5 - Michael Buble - I was recently turned on to Michael Bubles music. If you are looking for some nice relaxing tunes, check him out.

#4 - Eric Clapton - What can I say, excellent guitarist. He pulls it off heavy or with the acoustic. One of the best blues guitarists of all time.

#3 - Led Zepplin - Basically that fathers of Rock and Roll. One of the greatest bands to ever grace the planet plus one of the most recognized voices in all of music.

#2 - Chris Tomlin - I have the utmost respect for Chris Tomlin and his music. He is a man that God continually uses in my life and his music is incredible. I can't wait to see him live this weekend here in West Palm Beach.

#1 - The Deftones - Going back to my days in middle and high school, I was always a big fan of the rap/rock movement. I felt that the deftones were the best at pulling it off.

Activism

Someone recently sent me an article about actress Gena Davis and her campaign to create gender equality in childrens cartoons and movies. Yes this is the same Gena Davis that was playing the role of the President of this great nation (Before the show got shelved). Now don't get me wrong, I think women have every right to be treated equally and fairly, but look at this:

"In the 101 animated and live-action films examined, 28 percent of speaking characters were female, and just 17 percent of people in crowd scenes were female, researchers found in the study released Thursday by See Jane."

OK. So what have we learned. Someone actually is paid, and has the time, to sit there, watch 101 kids cartoons and movies and count each male and female character. Not only that, but they pause the movies and count the people in the crowd scenes. Wow.....To read more about this, go here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060209/ap_en_mo/film_g_rated_gender_3

Chuck Norris

There are certain people in this world known as "actors" and "actresses." There are others that are simply in a category of their own. Some of these people include Christopher Walken, Alec Baldwin, and Chuck Norris. These men go beyond the call of duty and in every movie provide us with some incredible laughs, whether they mean to or not. The book deals with, you guessed it, spiritual warfare. One of the chapters really hit home. It was on friendly fire. The author talks about how Christians often do more damage to others than non-Christians. As a youth pastor, I can only tell you that ministry is tough. As I am sure many of your fellow ministers can agree, sometimes "church politics" can get the best of us. It was a tough end to 2005, but I am confident that God has some amazing things in store for 2006. It is my prayer to see a youth group that grows closer to God everyday and to be part of a church that fully supports its youth and the future of our country....I have a feeling God is ready to move this year, are you ready??

Sucked into the world of blogging

Well, with all I have heard about blogs, I tried my hardest not to get sucked into yet another internet time consuming thing, but thanks to my boy Kevin and Chris Goeppner, here I am. I strive to one day be as cool as they are and what better way to do so then starting my own blog. I look forward to giving everyone a look into my life in ministry at Central Baptist where I serve as the youth pastor and Jupiter Christian School where I serve as the middle school Bible teacher and chaplain.
